Description
The Certificate in Emergency Medical Care is a one-year programme structured in a way that allows infusion of theory, preclinical skills acquisition and work integrated learning. The programme ensures students are proficient in all three learning domains namely:
3.1 Cognitive domain – the student demonstrates the ability to comprehend, apply and evaluate the clinical information relative to his/her role as an EMC technician.
3.2 Psychomotor domain – the student will demonstrate technical proficiency in all skills necessary to fulfil the role of an EMC technician.

Student learning will be achieved through didactic and practical education consisting of three phases of education namely didactic, skills laboratory, and work integrated learning. The didactic material provides the foundation for understanding the purpose and objectives of clinical treatments. This philosophy provides the rationale for the development of a comprehensive curriculum.
Skills laboratory training provides a safe and effective opportunity for students to develop psychomotor skills and apply concepts to clinical decision-making. The College maintains an extensive array of training manikins, models and equipment specifically for practice of the psychomotor skills of patient care. The College also
seeks to take advantage of the latest technology for educational purposes.

As students are instructed in the theoretical practice of emergency medical care, they participate in various supervised clinical experiences.
